Gracias Madre Unleashing Mexican Vegan Glory on Friday

New, 1 comment

Vegan diners of Los Angeles with an affinity for Mexican food, this one is for you. Gracias Madre, a Mexican vegan restaurant and bar from those behind Cafe Gratitude, finalllllly parts doors on Friday. The all organic menu is by executive chef Chandra Gilbert (Cafe Gratitude SF) and the small batch mezcal and tequila-focused bar is a work by beverage director Jason Eisner (Drago Centro). The earthy 5,000 square foot restaurant feels a bit like Cafe Gratitude in Venice with that open white-washed vaulted ceiling, and that's because Venice interior designer Wendy Haworth is also responsible for Gracias Madre's clean, worn, Mexican feel.

From pumpkin seed dip and plantain-filled empanadas to tacos and enchiladas, Gracias Madre puts the healthy, seasonal, thoughtfully sourced spin on Mexican staples, priced from $4 for roasted pumpkin seeds to $15.75 for tacos filled with sweet potato and topped with cashew nacho cheese.

Eisner's drinks — like the El Güey Aguanta which calls for horchata and mezcal — uses house-made bitters, syrups, and shrubs. But of course. See the full list here. Hours of operation will run daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m
