Over the summer South Bay restaurateur Jed Sanford was in escrow to score Hermosa Beach's Cafe Boogaloo on Hermosa Avenue. Word just in that Sanford and right hand man/chef Tin Vuong (Abigaile, Little Sister, WildCraft Sourdough Pizza) will flip the space into Dia de Campo, a mariscos restaurant described by reps as a "modern surf lodge" inspired by the Mexican and Latino food Vuong encountered while growing up in Los Angeles. Abigaile chef de cuisine Ken Johnson will oversee Dia de Campo's old school-new school Mexican and West Coast seafood plus raw bar menu.
On the subject of design, the team is going for an indoor/outdoor feel with communal tables and booths up front and standard tables in the rear. Also, an open kitchen displaying a wood-fired grill, and raw bar with seating .
