La Brea Bakery breads are sold at markets across the country, but flour child Nancy Silverton started it all here, in Los Angeles, on La Brea, twenty five years ago, in the building now occupied by Republique. When neighboring institution Campanile closed, chef Walter Manzke took over both the restaurant and adjacent bakery, which meant that the iconic La Brea Bakery needed to search for new turf. And after relocating less than a half block north one year ago, the newly expanded and renovated La Brea Bakery is almost ready for its close up, inviting in customers on January 30 for an official ribbon cutting at noon and comp bites off the new cafe menu from 12:30 to 3 p.m. During the afternoon, staff will randomly distribute La Brea Bakery gift cards and attendees will have the opportunity to win gift baskets by posting photos to Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #LaBreaBakery25.
