Nancy Silverton's baby is all grown up. With that exposed brick wall dedicated to 1989, the new La Brea Bakery — which will hold a ribbon cutting on January 30 — pays homage to its roots and year of inception, born half a block south on La Brea in the present home of Republique.

A year ago, La Brea Bakery partially reopened in the old Rita Flora space after vacating its original property, but it took management some time to really build out the former flower shop into what they envisioned a matured, full service La Brea Bakery should be. In this case, that means an express menu of salads and sandwiches, some old favorites and some recent additions, plus a totally new cafe menu with composed plates of spaghetti, grilled salmon, and pizza.

From menu overhaul to restaurant design, its obvious this is the next and more matured phase of La Brea Bakery, which began as a small, rustic bakery and cafe selling the handiwork of local bread queen Nancy Silverton. Come down on January 30 to try samples of the new menu, and for the next two weeks hours of operation will run Sunday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday/Saturday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
