Fantastic news for the Los Angeles restaurant scene. The somewhat recently appointed restaurant editor Josh Ozersky includes two LA restaurants, Chi Spacca and Faith & Flower, in Esquire's list of The Best New Restaurants in America, 2014.
Ozersky's carnivorous predilection is apparent in his selection of Chi Spacca, Chad Colby's meat-obsessed branch of the Mozza family of restaurants. The article makes notable mention of Chi Spacca's beef-and-marrow pie, "outrageous" salumi, and, of course, the four-week-old aged porterhouse.
The editor is also enthusiastic about what has become the newest star of the downtown dining scene, Faith & Flower. Ozersky praises chef Michael Hung's "impeccable technique" that shines in his rib steak with oyster jus and oxtail agnolotti dressed with marrow butter.
Not only does a special shout out go to Michael Lay's cocktail program that "just won't quit," but Faith & Flower's English Milk Punch gets top billing with Cocktail of the Year, for the libation of rum, cognac, and absinthe that utilizes a milk wash to create a clear cocktail with rich mouthfeel.
