Plan Check Kitchen + Bar, the modern American comfort food restaurant by Chef Ernesto Uchimura, will open its third outlet Monday, October 20 in the burgeoning Wilshire corridor of downtown's City West district.
In addition to Plan Check's signature dishes like the PCB, or Plan Check Burger with famed ketchup leather, Chef Uchimura will bring new menu items that both draw inspiration from his Argentinian/Jewish heritage and pay homage to the nearby culinary pockets such as Koreatown and East LA. This culinary direction is realized in the K-BBQ burger with kimcheese (gruyere cheese processed with wine and dried kimchi), gouchujang barbeque sauce, grilled pork belly, sesame salt, fried onions, and sprouting onion; meat and potatoes with beef short rib pot roast, caramelized tomato, cauliflower purée, cheesy tots, and flaked wasabi; and spicy tuna salad with sriracha vinaigrette, avocado, puffed rice, sesame, black radish, yellow frisée, nori, and garlic flowers.
While Plan Check Downtown incorporates signature brand elements like steel I-beams and road plate countertops, new materials add a sense of urban sleekness designed to reflect the venue's metropolitan surroundings. Vintage architectural elements are paired with industrial features like polished cement floors, metal barstools, and exposed beams. Décor comes by way of local artists who created custom pieces that play off LA street signage.
Plan Check Downtown will open for lunch and dinner daily from 11:00 am - 12:00 am Sunday - Wednesday, 11:00 am - 1:00 am Thursday, and 11:00 am - 2:00 am Friday - Saturday. Happy hour will be offered daily from 4 - 6 pm and 10:00 pm - close, and will feature dishes like bacon and pimento grilled cheese, baked oysters Rockefeller, and beast fries.
