Toluca Lake is a cozy neighborhood that's always craving more in the way of good dining options, and the husband-and-wife team of Alex and Sara Eusebio are providing one more place for the community to congregate in. Welcome Cascabel, a small 74-seat dining room with lovely wooden beams, bright turquoise accents, and rustic appointments all around. It's quite a change from its former life at D'Cache, where Phillip Frankland Lee made his first mark with Scratch Bar.
It's the kind of place where it's easy to slip in for a few margaritas, a lobster taco or two, shrimp ceviche with charred tomato, and a Mazatlan-style bouillabaisse. Landlubbers can nosh on hangar steak or al pastor tacos, or dip into a smoked bacon guacamole. Think of this as a bit of a Valley response to Mid-City's popular Petty Cash Taqueria.
