Coffee business must be good in San Fernando. Compania de Cafe, the Mexican-leaning third wave coffee shop that put down roots deep in the Valley not long ago, is using their newfound fame to roll out a second location in South Gate, of all places.

Seemingly intent on serving the county’s most under-caffeinated areas, the Compania team — led by barista Percy Ramirez, a Zagat 30-under-30 nominee, will look to bring their unique Mexican-American twist to everything from housemade pastries and espresso drinks to aguas frescas and cold brews. South Gate denizens should also expect a pretty robust menu of savories, including tortas, salads, tamales and empanadas.

In further keeping with the theme, Compania de Cafe also plans to team up with local artists to create Chicano murals and generally help with the design layout of the space. Expectant coffee drinkers won’t have to wait long, either — the South Gate Compania is due to open late this week.
