Canelé, a consistent Eastside dinner/brunch performer and recent addition to the Eater 38, is finally adding a weekday lunch program thanks to the efforts of Ria and Matt Wilson, who both cooked previously at SQIRL. Dubbed "Wild at Canelé," it's perhaps the most ambitious new lunch menu to hit the Atwater Village and Eastside this year (though Lucky Duck is aiming for that title as well).
The Wilsons new daytime creations are pretty accessible on Instagram, but the full menu shows some highlights like duck confit tartine, sunchoke cream cocotte, slow-roasted salmon with market lettuce and sorrel, as well as a fried chickens sandwich with Filipino pickle on pan de sal bun.
Veggies don't get ignored either, with winter squash topped with house-cultured butter, or asparagus with brown butter hollandaise. Overall, it's a similar level of creativity that one might expect to see on the specials menu at SQIRL, but with a bit more in the way of table real estate to stick around and linger over a long lunch.
Wild at Canelé is available Wednesday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
