It's coffee cart time. When last we left Jack Benchakul, Cognoscenti Coffee's resident science geek, he and his beautiful wooden modbar cart had left Highland Park's Good Girl Dinette in favor of upcoming Chinatown digs. Now it appears that day is at hand.
Starting this weekend, Benchakul will be tucked into a corner of Scoops Chinatown in the Far East Plaza -- yes, the same blossoming next-level food court area that's soon to house Andy Ricker's pad Thai concept and Alvin Cailan's Ramen Champ. Oh, and don't forget about Chego, which has been there for a while now.
Current hours at the cart will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, and will feature the same sort of rotating signature drinks that earned the Cog cart a following at Good Girl. Expect unique offerings like a vanilla bean and pandan iced latte and sweet ginger iced teas. Small sandwiches are available as well, with blends like prosciutto and tamarind to keep things interesting.
Of course, Benchakul himself will still be on site, making everything by hand. And, considering the Scoops Chinatown location, there's plenty of reason to believe that he might even make you an ice cream-laced affogato.
