Former owner and chef of Long Beach's hit (and now missed) Roe Seafood is returning just inland from Belmont Shore with a new concept that is expected to open soon. Chef Arthur Gonzalez is bringing Panxa Cocina to the space that was home to Christy's (daughter of Sonny Bono), a former restaurant that was a landmark on the stretch of Broadway in Long Beach.

Gonzalez is bringing the Latin flavors that originate from Mexico, South America, and have influenced the flavors of New Mexico and the southwest to Long Beach. Named after the Latin word meaning "belly," the new cocina is promising to fill diners' bellies with fresh ingredients, love, and an abundance of flavor (as well as libations with tequila and other handcrafted cocktails). —Matthew Bragman
