New School Kitchen Slinging Dim Sum Takeout on Sawtelle

Alex Chu, who owned The Dim Sum Truck will be creating new restaurant concepts at New School Kitchen, while doing dim sum to-go starting early next year.

New School Kitchen will be a takeout-only spot in West LA on Sawtelle and Olympic and will serve as a test kitchen for future concepts by New School Restaurant Group. Owner Alex Chu, who owned and operated the Dim Sum Truck, has been working diligently at established restaurant companies to be a successful fast-casual restaurateur. New School Kitchen is set to open early January.

Popular dim sum items once sold on the truck will be found as to-go items at New School Kitchen. Examples consist of Pork Shu Mai, Shrimp Har Gow, and Chashu Bao. Additionally, Hainanese Chicken Rice and Taiwanese Pork Belly Bao will be availible. Chu wants to do a homage to the Japanese-American community that made the Sawtelle area what it is today, with Bento Box options on the menu. One can choose their main rice dish, a bao, and a variety of dumplings or veggies.

New School Kitchen will be the foundation for future eateries, and the Sawtelle area is a sensible place to start. Prospective concepts might include a New School BBQ spot with Chashu baby back ribs and Thai BBQ chicken.
