East Hollywood has yet another new coffee option, though this one comes with a massive side of comedy.
The Inner Sanctum, soft open as of last week, is a sleek, airy cafe pitched inside of the much larger new Upright Citizens Brigade comedy theater on Sunset, just east of Western. The UCB compound as a whole is massive, with multiple theater spaces for aspiring comedians to ply their craft, plus rooms for classes, administration and video work, while the original black box location of the UCB on Franklin near La Poubelle remains open.
The Inner Sanctum cafe itself sits just down the side alley off the eastern edge of the complex, with a red sign to indicate its existence to passersby. Inside is a mish-mash of couches and chairs, plus the usual wood-topped stools and large tables for communal working. Plugs and free WiFi appeal to the laptop crowd, coffee comes by way of Stumptown, with simple banh mi sandwiches and sides by Brown Paper LA catering.
For now, the Inner Sanctum is cash only, though expect that to change in the coming weeks. Hours run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven nights a week.
