Kuniko Yagi, who opened Hinoki & the Bird as executive chef with David Myers, is now out of the restaurant, according to confirmation from the Century City eatery's flacks. The Top Chef contestant was helming the kitchen despite Myers' departure earlier this year, but apparently had a dispute with Hinoki's investors, according to a tipster.

No word on where Yagi, who's worked with Myers since their Sona days, is headed after this separation. In the meantime, Hinoki & the Bird will retain its concept and menu, with a full search underway for an executive chef replacement. Hinoki & the Bird opened to critical and popular acclaim back in December 2012.
