The Westside has had a few compelling Mexican options in the last few years, with Border Grill laying the foundation, and the likes of Tacos Punta Cabras and Mercado following suit. Ricardo Diaz, who helped create Guisados and eventually went on to open Colonia Taco Lounge in La Puente and Bizarra Capital in Whittier, is helming the kitchen at Tacoteca, created in partnership with AdVantage Restaurant Partners in the old Charleston space on Wilshire.

As seen below, Diaz is bringing the kind of creativity he's been executing at his eastern spots, with grilled octopus with serrano chile-peanut sauce, lamb barbacoa with mint, and dry-aged chorizo with seared farmer's cheese. Also be sure to check the cocktail and drink list from Gilbert Marquez, who's putting a strong focus on mezcal and tequila. Tacoteca has previews for the remainder of this week, but will start serving to the public early next week.
