Los Angeles Magazine released their 10 Best New Restaurant list under the direction of critic Patric Kuh, with Walter and Margarita Manzke's République topping the list. Following suit, Pasadena Italian spot Union from chef Bruce Kalman, Smoke.Oil.Salt. from AdVantage Restaurant Partners and chef Perfecto Rocher, and Zach Pollack's Alimento in Silver Lake.
The list rounds out with Night + Market Song, Sushi Tsujita, Faith & Flower, Maude, Scopa Italian Roots, and Pine & Crane at the tenth spot. Overall, it's a strong showing for Silver Lake, which has three spots, and the eastern part of the city (if you include Pasadena and Downtown), which has five places in the top ten.
Kuh's listicle also shows a strong affinity for Italian cuisine, with three places that focus on fresh pastas and other Italian fare, and three Asian specialists that really highlights LA's strength with those cuisines. Does this list encapsulate the ten best places to open in Los Angeles over the past year? Should some other places have merited inclusion? Hit the comments with thoughts.
