LA Times restaurant critic Jonathan Gold's Hollywood debut is now just over a month awayVariety reports that the Laura Gabbert documentary, which is dubbed City of Gold, will be competing at Sundance early next year after recently wrapping production. According the summary, the film, "casts his light upon a vibrant and growing cultural movement in which he plays the dual roles of high-low priest and culinary geographer of his beloved Los Angeles."

The self-dubbed Belly of Los Angeles made headlines when news of the film's production came out in late 2012, with stories focusing on the critic's impact not only on the local culinary scene, but an entire generation of food lovers.

Eater Senior Critic Robert Sietsema apparently has a cameo in the documentary, where upon the two critics join legendary writer Calvin Trillan for lunch.
