HOLLYWOOD— Midtown Lunch and Evan Kleiman are sponsoring a screening of The Search for General Tso, a documentary on Chinese-American cuisine. The special screening takes place at Arena Cinema on January 4, with tickets available for purchase here. The event also includes some tasty bites after the Q&A session, of course. Check out the trailer here.

DOWNTOWN— Plan Check in both Downtown and Fairfax are offering handy lunchtime specials for $15 from Monday to Friday from 12 to 3 p.m. Lunches come with a burger, fries, and drink, with $1 or $2 upgrades to something like the Chef's Favorite Burger or Bleuprint burger. The base meal is the Plan Check Burger, essentially a really good version of the McDonald's cheeseburger, plus fries, pickle spear, and fountain drink.

AROUND TOWN— TimeOut lists 100 great dishes and drinks from Los Angeles this year, including Wexler's Deli, Hollywood Pies, and Smoke.Oil.Salt as some of the picks.
