Dinosaur Coffee, Now Helping Hipsters Roar to Life in Silver Lake

Dinosaur Coffee brings Four Barrel beans and plenty of room for laptops.

Rejoice, coffee-addled evolutionists: Dinosaur Coffee is alive! The latest third-wave shop to hit the area has been undergoing plenty of friends and family soft-open business as of last week, but only truly started pulling shots for the whole neighborhood on Saturday morning.

As of Monday morning, the bright, blond-wood-everywhere'd space designed by MASS Architecture is fully operational, with hours running 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (though a 6 p.m. close time is likely later on). Beans come by way of San Francisco's Four Barrel Coffee roasters, with the usual assortment of specialty drinks available, from $3 drip to $5 mochas, with sodas, hot chocolates and pots of tea in between. Pastries are delivered daily by Farmshop.

Dinosaur is also showcasing a few different Nobu Nishigawara mugs, teapots, grinders and Chemex pourover systems for sale on their ample (though for now, still mostly empty) shelves. Seating is equally bountiful, thanks to a few cafe tables out front, a half-ring coffee bar towards the back and a run of long communal tables for getting work done - and yes, there is WiFi.

While at first blush, Dinosaur might seem to have set up in a rather conspicuous location, given its proximity almost dead-center between Caffe Vita, across from the Vista Theater in Los Feliz, and Silver Lake's own longtime Intelligentsia, there's no denying the area's coffee consumption. Add in free WiFi and a decent amount of street parking, and it looks like co-owner Ben Hantoot (aka the guy who came up with Cards Against Humanity) probably has a hit on his hands.
