Mondo Taco has spawned a second iteration expanding from La Brea to Santa Monica, touting handmade tortillas (still a relative rarity in L.A.), and innovative fillings. Currently soft open with shortened hours, the rather confused concept of "gourmet tacos" will be running a full schedule starting February 12 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Founded by Sam Spector (The Culver Hotel), the new location exists within the AO apartment complex and taco lovers in the area can now indulge in everything from Tacos Punta Cabras to Tacos Por Favor. Menu highlights include panko-crusted fish with curry sauce and mushrooms and goat cheese chock full of garlic aioli. With double the size and a beer/wine license, this Mondo is a turn toward the serious.

Despite its eclectic approach to the Mexican standard, the love on Yelp is pretty rampant, running a 4.5 star average for the original La Brea spot.
