In the March issue of GQ, Alan Richman lists his "12 Most Outstanding Restaurants of 2014," including several noteworthy Los Angeles restaurants. While Austin's Qui gets the top honor, Ludo Lefebvre's Trois Mec is close behind in second place, and Richman notes, "[n]othing you will eat tastes conventional," and he adds, "Lefebvre is planning a simpler French spot in the abandoned Tasty Thai restaurant next door."
Meanwhile, chef Josef Centeno's newish Italian-Japanese number Orsa & Winston takes eighth place. Richman believes Centeno "understands how to play with flavors, textures, and contrasts, resulting in masterfully complicated comfort food." And down at number 14 on the extended, online-only list is Ari Taymor's Alma, "barely a restaurant," says Richman, though one that will "both puzzle and thrill you." Mozza child Chi Spacca comes in at 20 and Richman comments that "[e]verything is beyond normal." The full list is now available online, in slideshow format.
