Downtown's southern section keeps getting better by the month. First, The Ace Hotel (well, Umamicatessen, which eventually gave way to a regular Umami Burger), Alma, then Acne Studios and Urban Outfitters. Also on deck, Big Gay Ice Cream, and now, some neat photos from Brigham Yen of the Empire Hotel. Produced by Chetrit Group, who also owns the Empire Hotel (of Gossip Girl fame) in New York, the classy black-and-white boutique will host 183 rooms, a rooftop bar, and ground floor restaurant. In addition, like the Ace, the Empire will incorporate the Trinity Auditorium and former Embassy Hotel into one new boutique. At the moment, there's no set timeline for a debut, but the rooms certainly look ready to occupy in the near future.
