As part of Eater Pizza Week 2014, chefs at five LA restaurants that don't serve pizza agreed to make a special limited edition pizza-inspired creation on offer just this week. Every day we'll highlight a new pizza, today we have Carnitas Pizzadilla from Mercado in Santa Monica.

AOC, East Borough, The Church Key and Little Sister all created off-the-menu pizza-inspired dishes for Eater's Pizza Week. Finally today comes Mercado's special, the $14 Carnitas Pizzadilla by chef Jose Acevedo. Chef Acevedo believes that flour tortillas are the perfect multi-cultural base and thusly he decided to use one as a pizza foundation to serve his signature dish, carnitas.
Chef Acevedo throws a flour tortilla on the grill and melts Oaxacan cheese on top. He then adds slow cooked carnitas, pico de gallo, escabeche, and finally avocado salsa. Et voila. Pizza meets taco.
