Yesterday marked the grand launch for Belcampo Meat Co. at Grand Central Market, the Marin Country Mart-based butcher and cafe lauded for its high quality proteins. Although Los Angeles is experiencing a wave of boutique butchery (from Lindy & Grundy to A Cut Above), what makes Belcampo extra special is that its heritage breed animals are sustainably and humanly raised on Belcampo's own farm in Mount Shasta and even slaughtered in-house.
It's a total farm to fork experience now on offer to Angelenos via two methods. Drop by Belcampo for rack of goat and chicken hearts to cook at home, or snag a seat at the old school lunch counter for a pulled lamb belly sandwich or Philly cheesesteak. Check out the full menu here but note that the dishes will rotate, so don't expect to find all of those on offer at once. And as for Belcampo's next SoCal venture in Santa Monica, that one is now slated to open around August.
