Vardo Cafe in Venice Retooling into The Anchor by June

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Just last month came news that Vardo on Main Street in Venice was transforming into something. Exactly what wasn't clear, except that only beer, wine, and coffee were going to be served until new management took over. This week, one Sandy Ames and Kristen Ciccolella applied for a 41 license to serve beer and wine under the name The Anchor. According to its Facebook page, which was only created on March 23, The Anchor will be "NYC meets Venice," featuring oysters, cheese, cured meats, and deviled eggs. The page also says The Anchor will be open by June.
