David Tanis at Belcampo Meat Co., Ugly Drum x Mendo

DOWNTOWN— Celebrated chef and cookbook writer David Tanis (Chez Panisse) is on a book tour promoting his latest work One Good Dish: The Pleasures of a Simple Meal. He'll be signing copies at Belcampo Meat Co. inside Grand Central Market on April 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. But the best part is that the event is totally free to attend (with RSVP) and includes food from Belcampo and wine by DomaineLA. LOS FELIZ— Cat Baker and David Beckwith of forthcoming Los Feliz market and cafe Stamp Proper Foods have settled on a launch date. Come on down for kelp noodles beginning April 7. During week one hours will run 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then expand to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. [EaterWire]

AROUND TOWN— This isn't a joke but on April 1 Panda Express will comp guests a Golden Szechuan Fish entree with any purchase. [EaterWire]

AROUND TOWN— Mendocino Farms is continuing its relationship with Ugly Drum BBQ after that pop up earlier this month. Mendo is adding to its menu a pastrami sandwich created in collaboration with Ugly Drum BBQ chefs Erik Black and Joe Marcos, but not until this coming fall (management is building a smoking kitchen to keep up with production). But, Mendo is planning an early tasting tour beginning April 7 at the 3rd and Fairfax location where the sandwich will be on offer for a few days during specific hours before traveling to another Mendo branch. Updates via Twitter. Anyway, the thing is called "Our House Smoked Pastrami Project," costs $12.95, and involves 12-hour pecan-wood smoked pastrami with apple coleslaw and a side of "Moppin' Mustard Sauce." [EaterWire]
