Banh Mi No More: Red Med Dunzo At Formosa Cafe

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

That was short. Red Med at Formosa Cafe is officially dunzo as of last Saturday, according to Besha Rodell at LA Weekly, who was planning on filing a positive review of the restaurant-within-a-bar that started up in January. According to Rodell, Formosa Cafe's management didn't stick to their end of the bargain, which is a shame because for a few months it was one of the best places to grab a late night meal in West Hollywood.

Throw in the steep history of Formosa, and it made for quite a pairing. According to Adam Fleischman and Jordan Kahn, the deal didn't fall through because of slow sales. No word on what kind of food is going to replace Red Medicine, but given the divey atmosphere, it's safe to assume it'll be back to ho-hum bar fare.

"While Red Med at Formosa Café was well received and sales of the new menu have gone well, the ownership at Formosa Café has not fulfilled its agreements with Red Med. With regret, today we announce that Red Med must stop its service at the Formosa Cafe effective immediately."
