A few weeks ago Paul Hibler (Pitfire Pizza, Superba Snack Bar) said that there wasn't a word in the English language to describe Superba Food & Bread, the bakery, cafe, restaurant, bar, community hub and bread delivery place he'll open tomorrow within the next week on Lincoln Boulevard in Venice. A messhall or canteen somewhat describes the design-savvy facility, which came together thanks to the ladies over at Design, Bitches.
As a recap, chef Jason Travi (littlefork) and Jason Neroni (Superba Snack Bar) worked together on dishes like panchetta-wrapped pork shoulder and beer-steamed mussels, meanwhile head baker Jonathan Eng (Le Pain Quotidien) is responsible for the beautiful loaves of bread pictured above. Desserts like almond-caramel candy bars and vanilla brioche sticky buns come by way of Lincoln Carson, formerly Michael Mina's corporate pastry chef.
A newer addition to the team is Tyler Wells whose name might sound familiar because he is one of the founding three behind Handsome Coffee in the Arts District. As mentioned, he has since split off to open his own place, but in the meantime he's leading Superba Food & Bread's coffee program using Stumptown-roasted beans. In addition to espresso-based drinks, those really in need of a caffeine fix will be able to order growlers of cold brew to-go under the new Superba Coffee label. To make things a bit easier, customers will have the option to order coffee inside from the bar or outside from a walk-up window. Baked goods and juice, too. Then at night the window will dispense alcoholic beverages for those who want to hang outside on the cedar patio. And it's worthwhile to mention that booze is controlled by GM Ashley Ragovin who also works at Scopa.
Ultimately, Superba Food & Bread will serve daily, but to start opening hours will run Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Get excited.

Update: Although Hibler had intended on opening tomorrow, last minute delays have pushed Superba's launch yet again. Look for a debut in the next week.
