Word just in that Umami Santa Monica, which resides inside the Fred Segal on the corner of 4th and Broadway, will shut down within a few months time. According to PR reps, it's not because lagging sales or traffic, but rather because the owner of the building is planning to redevelop the entire property. Probably not a bad idea considering the prime location and large lot in Santa Monica, but sad news for Umami fans on the Westside. Umami will most certainly look to find another spot within the area.

Update:

Says Umami regarding the impending closure: We have a great relationship with our landlord in Santa Monica and Umami is going to stay open there for as long as allowed. In the meantime, we are continuing to scout new potential Umami Burger locations in Southern California
