Playa Provisions is finally here. The epic multi-purpose eatery, bar, and ice cream shop from Brooke Williamson and Nick Roberts is officially opening tomorrow, May 23, in Playa del Rey in the former Tower 42 block just steps away from the beach. Open right now, just King Beach, the casual daytime cafe, and Small Batch, Williamson's ode to all things sweet and creamy featuring flavors like Thai Iced Tea and Chocolate Malted Crunch (that take Thrifty!). Designed by Glen Bell Dex Studio (Tripel, Alibi Room) to reflect a sort of forest meets beach vibe (think Big Sur), it's sure to be the place to be in Playa del Rey this summer.
At King Beach, expect an airy, bright place to catch a slew of freshly prepared salads like quinoa with white corn or smoked potato, or tuna with white beans. Pair those with something like the roasted chicken and brie sandwich served on ciabatta, or the expertly warmed up house tuna conserva (Williamson's favorite) with bread & butter pickles, celery leaves, and gruyere. Everything should be wonderful to take away and enjoy right on the sand just a half block away.
For sweets, there are the ice creams, made in house and served in sundaes, shakes, and cookie sandwiches. Pastries are prepared in house, with everything from cinnamon rolls, raspberry almond galettes, shark attack cupcakes (complete with nasty plastic shark to take home), funfetti cakes, and banana cream pies to along with coffee, tea, and espresso drinks.
As for Dockside, the interior is essentially complete, but a few more details are waiting to go in. It'll be ready to serve in about two weeks serving dinner every evening and brunch on weekends while Grain, the whiskey bar hidden in the back room, should be locked and loaded by mid-June.
