ChocoChicken Clucking on May 29 in Downtown

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

The next highly anticipated Adam Fleischman concept, ChocoChicken, is just about a week from opening, and the excitement in South Park is palpable. Taking over the former CorkBar space on the corner of 11th and Grand, the chicken plus chocolate idea isn't possibly the most novel in the world. Mexicans have been using that combination for many years.

But what's different is that ChocoChicken combines fried chicken tastefully with cocoa powder and a super-thick savory chocolate sauce that's not incredibly different than mole. Throw in sides like white chocolate mashed potatoes, duck fat fries, butter and bacon biscuits.

So, while not groundbreaking, it'll still likely be a popular casual eatery that that block of South Park desperately needs. Fleischman feels strong enough on concept to have plans for a second location in Santa Monica.
UPDATE: ChocoChicken is officially open on May 29. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., until 2 a.m. on weekends and until 8 p.m. on Sundays.
