Guisados Downtown Launching in Five Weeks

It looks like the latest outpost of Guisados, the popular braised tacos mini-empire, will be arriving Downtown soon enough, after a few delays. Already a staple in Boyle Heights and Echo Park, the perennial taqueria favorite has had plans to expand into the Spring Street Arcade, which hopes for its own revitalization similar to the Grand Central Market.

The shop is still about five weeks out, though finishing touches like wall art are beginning to take shape. Downtown office lunchers can expect about 25 seats inside, with at least as many more along the glass-topped arcade wall in front. Guests can generally expect the same long list of stewed meats and vegetable braises for their hand-patted tortillas, with occasional one-off specials thrown into the mix.

Of particular note will be the eventual emergence of a breakfast menu, which as long been rumored at all three locations. Founding father Armando de la Torre and his clan also hope to score a conditional use beer and wine license, but are currently focusing on the physical build-out process. —Farley Elliott
