Cosmos, the dive bar-cum-karaoke lounge in Little Tokyo, is turning off the tunes come month end after a battle with the landlord yielded a loss for the operator. The building owner recently began renovations and told Joe, the owner of Cosmos, to vacate at the end of May.

Yesterday, a call to the dive confirmed the news: Cosmos is closing for good. The space holds a rare 48 license, which allows full liquor without the need to serve any food. The no-frilled bar had been serving the denizens of Downtown since 2000. No word on what will replace it, but all signs point to something more gentrified.
