Is Simmzy's, the popular South Bay brewpub with big expansion plans, on its way north? That seems to be the implication behind a recent ABC license request, which lists Mike Simms, Chris Simms and Anne Conness as the names behind a hopeful 47 on-site alcohol license inside the old Casa Cabo space on Olive. All, of course, are primary operators of the two existing Simmzy's brewpub locations in Manhattan Beach and Long Beach.
Back in 2011, NRN caught up with Chris Simms to talk about his family's expanding empire (which includes Tin Roof Bistro, the Lazy Dog Cafe chain and early investment into MB Post and Fishing with Dynamite), and since then word has gotten out about an eventual Venice opening on Washington and a possible move into Playa Del Rey. The Simmzy's team was unavailable for comment, but here's to hoping for more burgers and beer in Burbank. —Farley Elliott
