Akatora, a new sushi spot from Michael Cardenas that takes over the former Katsu spot in Manhattan Beach, is slated for a July 15 debut. Named after Cardenas' grandfather's fishing boat back in Japan, the restaurateur will be previewing some of the bites, including a spicy tuna and popcorn shrimp handroll, during this weekend's first-ever Downtown Night Market. Located on the corner of Rosecrans and Highland, Cardenas hopes to make a splash in both the South Bay and SGV this year.
