Yesterday came news of Power House's impending closure, but word just in that Matt Winter, who designed everything from 41 Ocean and Melrose Umbrella Company to the upcoming refresh of Lou Adler's legendary On the Rox space, will be working to convert the Hollywood dive bar beginning June 24. A re-opening will be scheduled after a few months of construction.
Winter, who tends to focus on historical authenticity, is aiming to give the nearly 60 year old bar a European alley bar vibe that would fit right into the side-street feel that Power House maintained for years. Right now, Winter is aiming to keep the Power House name (and hopefully the great neon!). So while it won't be a dirty dive with cheap beer, it should be a nice place to abscond from the Hollywood crowds.
