Welcome Alimento, a lovely trattoria opening tonight in Silver Lake in the former Back Door Bakery space. From Sotto's Zach Pollack, this ode to all things Italian draws from all over the country's cuisine, like mackerel conserva with white beans, rye tagliatelle in a veal ragu, and maccheroncini with chicken livers and marsala. The highly anticipated eatery might very well be the marquee place opening in Silver Lake this year, which has already received Night + Market Song and Pine & Crane. Elsewhere on the menu, a bone-in pork shank with potatoes and cabbage or whole orata with calabrian chiles rounds out the early bill of fare.
Inside, everything's been scrubbed clean to reveal a space that looks larger than it really is, ideal for catching an early evening glass of prosecco or craft beer. Thankfully, no worn wood here, but most of the materials are all re-purposed and eco-friendly, which makes sense in Silver Lake. About 40 people fit inside though a sidewalk patio is planned for the future. Hours run 5:30 to 10 p.m., and until 12 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Closed Mondays.
