Jason Neroni, the chef who brought energy and gusto to Rose Avenue at Paul Hibler's Superba Snack Bar, left the celebrated Cal-Ital restaurant last week for a new Bill Chait project, reports LA Weekly. According to the story, Neroni had given control of the stoves to a sous chef for some time before before announcing that he was leaving for a better opportunity with Bill Chait. That unnamed restaurant is supposed to open in Spring 2015.
That's quite a long break for Neroni, who helped put the menu together at American Gonzo Corp's East Borough, and supposedly had some involvement at Superba Food & Bread (though his role wasn't very clear). Neroni had originally landed in LA from New York at Osteria La Buca before finding greener pastures at Hibler's American Gonzo Corp. Well, Chait's green pastures are pretty hard to beat, given his track record of Bestia, Republique, Petty Cash, Sotto, and Rivera.
Neroni is scheduled to cook for the upcoming FoodGPS Rib Festival in Chinatown, still under the Superba Snack Bar hande, though the site just likely hasn't been updated to reflect this news. Neroni landed the 2012 Eater Award for Chef of the Year.
