The indie coffee scene can still survive, despite major players hitting town. Here's one more funky local cafe founded by Miran Oh that opened two months ago called Healing Coffee Roasters in Mid-City that roasts their coffee in house. They might also have one of the most elaborate Kyoto-style drip machines in the city, with direct piping to moderate the water.
Among other unique features, they also have an incense-driven Ethiopian coffee ceremony display, which makes sense considering its Little Ethiopia proximity. Open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Sundays.
