Akbar Cuisine of India Is Serving Its Last Naan in SaMo

Akbar Cuisine of India in Santa Monica, a longtime Indian food institution on Wilshire, is closing down tonight after 16 years in business. Apparently replacing the spot is a sushi restaurant, or "Japanese tapas-style" place, according to one tipster. At the moment, there isn't more news about what's going to replace Akbar, but anyone living in Santa Monica that wants one last hit of the Zagat-rated eatery's chicken tikka or lamb vindaloo will have to go in today. The odd thing is, this same news hit six years ago, but Akbar never went away until now. The chain still has three other locations around town.
