Open Oven, another 800-degrees/Blaze style build-your-own pizza shop is opening imminently in Westwood in the former Umami Burger (and before that, U-Mini) space. A tentative debut is scheduled for August 11. Nearly fully built out, the place sports a large wood-fired oven in the center of the kitchen along with a smashing machine that Blaze also uses to flatten out the dough. According to the Daily Bruin, the place is run by Dustin Gebhard, who hopes to multiply the concept to other units in the future.
The gimmick here is essentially unlimited pizza toppings for a fixed price (oh America). Just heed the redundant caption on the sign: "your choice of choice ingredients baked fresh." And the perfect catnip for college students, Gebhard is giving away free pizzas on August 5 and 6 ahead of the official launch.
