Phillip Frankland Lee is furiously trying to build out and fill in his second restaurant, The Gadarene Swine. Occupying a swell little brick building (once Eggplant) along perhaps the busiest restaurant stretch in Studio City, Lee was seen loading in prepped ingredients and other miscellaneous items into the half-built eatery, which has a tacit opening date of September 15, according to PR flacks.
The Gadarene Swine will have a vegetable-centric menu (some preview dishes might hit Instagram tonight as Lee conducts a media preview), though it will not be entirely vegan in nature. Only eight chef's counter seats will sit at the bar while a few tables will be strewn across the rest of the diminutive space. It's a bit like a sushi omakase bar meets fine dining restaurant serving only veggies. If that sounds like it's a weird idea, check out Philadelphia's Vedge, which recently received many positive words from Eater critic Bill Addison. Here's to hoping that this hotly anticipated spot by Lee will be aiming for those heights.
