Shave ice season is almost upon us again (though really, any time is shave ice time in Los Angeles). And with the turning of the dessert seasons Alhambra welcomes in Ice Que, an outpost of confectioner John Park’s popular Quenelle in Burbank.
After hand-making ice creams, popsicles and the like from his Burbank digs, Park decided to push east with a shave ice concept done right. The inexpensive after school treat is still decidedly child-like inside, complete with colorful magnetic letters that make up the menu and a happy little snow mural on the wall.
Stuck into a smallish shop on the corner of Main and 4th, Ice Que is intent on pushing forward some more gourmet flavors than shave ice patrons might normally be used to. Sure, there’s green tea, mocha and plenty of coconut to be had, but expect Park to roll out flavors more suited to the Burbank set as well, like coffee caramel and and blueberry pie.
Ice Que is open Tuesday through Thursday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
