The Spoon Blends Korean and Italian Flavors in a Koreatown Shopping Mall

The new restaurant opened on Monday.

Koreatown is welcoming a newcomer today, by the simplified name of The Spoon. It’s a fusion restaurant, naturally, intent on marrying Korean kimchi flavors with Italian preparations. So what’s that mean for the common man?

Well, for starters, there’s a kimchi pilaf. And, this being America, it’s topped with a sunny side up egg and riddled with bacon. Pizzas might arrive with bulgogi or pineapple, depending on your preference. Then there’s the more straightforward stuff, like chicken piccata and spaghetti bolognese, just to show that things aren totally off the rails. And it’s all going down inside of the Madang Plaza Shopping Mall on Western between Wilshire and 6th Street. That’s the one with Doni Burger, Curry House and the like.

The Spoon has been serving up everything from fried calamari to ddeokbokki since Monday, with hours from noon to 9 p.m. daily.
