Just as Hatfield's ended their last dinner service on December 31, Quinn and Karen Hatfield are nearly ready to debut their grill-heavy restaurant Odys + Penelope. Located up the block from The Sycamore Kitchen, their day time bakery and cafe, this new spot will incorporate the power of open fire in the kitchen, with a Brazilian-style churrasco and a smoker as the main components, at least according to the LA Times.
With January 12 as a target opening date, the Hatfields plan to incorporate plenty of meat, but will also feature vegetables alongside. The 3,800 square foot restaurant designed by Alexis Readinger of Preen Inc will have around 80 seats. The aesthetic is a bit of modern with plenty of rustic, with utilitarian, renewable materials, geometric walls, and tobacco-stained particle board to show some weathering in from smoke.
An interesting note to this place: there's an 18% service charge to all food and beverage, much in the vein of Petit Trois. There will be no additional tip line, making the whole service and tip aspect a little less worrysome for diners.
When it opens, Odys + Penelope will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday to Thursday, until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. See an early edition of the menu (excuse some of the typos), and get ready.
