Nancy Silverton certainly knows her way around the artisanal product space. The James Beard award winner founded La Brea Bakery, of course, which is a now-nationally recognized name in upscale bread that can be found on both coasts.
Her most recent foray, as reported by the LA Times, extends the Silverton brand into the frozen food section via a lineup of sorbettos and gelatos. Cheekily titled Nancy’s Fancy, the upscale desserts are slated for a spring release following a debut at San Francisco’s Winter Fancy Food Show next week.
Potential customers can expect a run of simple flavors like mixed berry and even butterscotch budino, a take on Mozza’s famous after-dinner delight. And, this being Silverton, the ingredients are expected to be ceaselessly high quality and the production kept local, though if the explosion of La Brea Bakery is any indication of future success, who knows. One thing’s for sure: at $10.99 a pint, these gelatos won’t be cheap.
