It's going to be high noon at Hot's Kitchen in Hermosa Beach. PETA protestors are rallying their forces against chef Sean Chaney's restaurant, which led the movement to lift the ban against foie gras in California. Starting at noon today, PETA members will protest against Hot's Kitchen using an anti-foie gras cartoon by a Charlie Hebdo cartoonist (who was one of the victims of the shooting yesterday in Paris). Here's a word from PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk:
"It takes a total lack of shame and empathy to crow about the chance to serve and sell the diseased liver of a tortured, force-fed bird...The main ingredient in every bite of foie gras is cruelty to animals, and PETA is calling on kind people everywhere to stay away from any restaurant that insists on serving this vile dish."
This is the first major protest against foie gras since the ban was lifted yesterday after a judge's order invalidated the law. Stay tuned for more updates on the ground from Hot's Kitchen in Hermosa Beach.
UPDATE: Here's a photo of the protest in action today.
