Aestus, a Suave Mid Century Modern Dining Room in the Heart of Santa Monica

New, 2 comments

Owner Kevin O'Conner of LIOCO Winery brings a grown up dining spot to the Westside.

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

The news already broke yesterday on aestus' opening, which took place last night, but here today is the full view of the dining room designed by MASS Architecture. It's quite the beauty, taking advantage of a spacious main dining room and placing tastefully appointed mid century modern furniture and other visual appointments. Overall, it's the kind of place where you're willing to take your parents or have a fine bottle of wine with dinner. The fare comes via Alex Ageneau, who was most recently at The Royce in Pasadena.

The cooking is grounded by European classics, starting with the charcuterie board and ending with dishes like grilled octopus salad and fire-roasted chicken from the wood-burning grill. And since the best farmers market in the city is just steps away, expect much of the menu and ingredients to change on a seasonal, and even daily, basis.

Roam around a bit, mark that reservation, and enjoy a bit more of the grown-up atmosphere that aestus brings to the neighborhood.
