Koreatown's Break Room 86 at 11 p.m. on a Saturday Night

Koreatown's hottest club is the perfect 80s throwback.

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Approach the rather smelly dumpster area at The Line Hotel and you'll see people congregating. For what? Well, only to enter the hottest nightclub in Koreatown right now. That's correct, Break Room 86 has an entrance from the back side of the hotel, and through the service corridors. The door into the club? It's a cheeky one, just like The Houston Brothers's other spots like La Descarga and No Vacancy.

Once inside, it's a sensory overload of 1980s nostalgia and cool. Did you bring your leather jacket? Or did you bring your bright colored Spandex? Either way, the drinks come in vintage variety as well, which means Rocket Pop cocktails served over crushed ice. Or a Dr. J, mixing Irish whiskey, rum, lime, and Giffard's vanilla. Arcades? Check. Battered TVs stacked along two walls? Check. Faux high school lockers? Check. Karaoke rooms chock full of 80s tunes and more? Check, check, check. When you're at Break Room 86, it's the MTV era all over again.
