Los Feliz Legend El Chavo Is Closing for Good in Early November

There's a going away party tonight.

All those local whispers seem to have turned into a bit of truth: El Chavo in Los Feliz will be closing its doors for good next month.

The rumors were first reported by The Eastsider back in August, but no one even then knew quite what to make of the information. An ABC paperwork flip points to a new LLC (Omni Equities, which totally sounds like a small-town name with a desire to keep things local), with now-former owner Melanie Tusquellas saying that she was simply moving on to other projects in her life.

However, attempts to define and reach out to those Omni folks have proven ultimately fruitless, so there’s nothing really to know about what may, or may not, be moving into the El Chavo address. It’s unlikely to be a teardown given the iconic structure itself (who hasn’t enjoyed a drink or five on that wonderful back patio?), but given the exploding restaurant scene in the area odds are good that the concept will switch. Or, like El Condor in Silver Lake, refine itself towards a more modern sensibility.

Want to help blow the place out before the party stops for good? There’s a going-away shindig happening tonight, so get in your last drinks while you can. Sometime in early November, El Chavo will cease to be.
